The Ice by the Skeena

The Skeena river is a magical place. Similarly to the mountains around, it changes every time you look at it. The water level, the drifting trees and the reflection of the sky are never exactly the same and the waves, current, sound and smell constitute the ever-evolving spirit of the river. It is impossible to feel like you’ve seen it all.

This winter was no exception to the manifestation of the Skeena’s beauty. Several cold arctic outflows enabled the formation of a thick layer of ice so pristine that locals were skating on it. Due to the inherent strength of the river, this volume of ice was fractured and slowly washed down the Pacific ocean.

For a brief moment in time, when atmospheric and river conditions aligned, the banks of the Skeena revealed an otherworldly ephemeral scenery made of ice, water and fog. We journeyed through this universe as humble guests, finding ways to relate to it and associating the immense with the infinitesimal.
